Crime Alert Bulletin

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 06-18-19 at 10:30 a.m., Officer Prudden was dispatched to the Dollar Tree store on Geneva Avenue on a report of a just-occurred robbery. The dispatcher broadcasted the description of the suspect, and Officer Prudden checked the area prior to entering the store, but he did not see the suspect. The employee said the suspect entered the store with a bag and said she began filling up the bag with items from the store shelves. The employee said the suspect walked out of the store without paying for the items. The employee said he grabbed the bags, and the suspect told him the bag was hers. The employee told her she had to pay for the items first and asked the suspect for the bag. The suspect then started taking items out of the bag and threw them at two employees. The suspect threw a bottle that hit one employee in the eyes and nose area, causing the employee to bleed. The suspect then fled the store. The victim described the suspect as a black female, 20-years old, dark skinned, walking with one pink slipper. The 39-year old employee went to the hospital to be treated for his injury.

On Wednesday, 06-19-19 at 9:09 a.m., Officer Mulitauopele was dispatched to the UPS Store on Mission Street on a report of a male yelling to himself and customers. The male, a 42-year old transient, was intoxicated and was arrested for the offense.

Officer Lizana met with two Brisbane police officers who had stopped both a male and a female. The female was clothed after the male gave her clothes to wear. The male subject, a 48-year old Half Moon Bay resident, was subsequently cited for possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). The female, a 26-year old Stockton resident, was arrested for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for giving false information to a police officer.

On Saturday, 06-22-19 at 4:45 a.m., officers responded to the area of Lake Merced Boulevard and Southgate Avenue regarding reports of a vehicle racing a motorcycle. Officer Greene saw a subject in a Ford Mustang fail to remain at a red light, make an improper turn and fail to yield to emergency lights. The subject was involved in a single-vehicle collision in the area of Junipero Serra Boulevard and Brotherhood Way in San Francisco. The driver, a 19-year old Oakland resident, was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and driving with a suspended driver's license. The passenger, a 21-year old Oakland resident, was arrested for public intoxication.

On Saturday, 06-22-19 at 11:19 p.m., Officer Greene was dispatched to a welfare check on the 100 block of South Mayfair Avenue. The reporting party said a male subject was laying on the sidewalk and not moving. Sgt. Moala arrived to assist, and they conducted a record check on the subject, who had previously been in prison and was previously on probation. The subject consented to the officers searching him, and the officers found a glass pipe, as well as a bottle containing heroin and methamphetamine. Community Events/Information

Fourth of July

To celebrate this holiday as safely as possible, we want to remind you that fireworks are illegal in Daly City. This includes the “safe and sane” types that are sold in nearby cities. On the days leading up to each 4th of July, as well as the actual day and after, fireworks are one of the biggest causes of fires and injuries throughout the United States. Let’s keep our City safe and free from any potential disasters—the potential for fires is enormous.

The Daly City Police Department personnel will be on an enforcement detail looking for people using fireworks. People in possession of or using any fireworks will be subject to a citation/arrest by an officer. This includes fireworks that are purchased from another city. People who choose to shoot guns into the air will be booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

For pets and some people, especially Veterans suffering from PTSD, this is a very scary day. The loud firework noises scare the pets and for the veterans, the sounds may bring back traumatic memories. Please do what you can to make sure everyone stays indoors and stays comfortable.

In California, it is a misdemeanor to possess illegal fireworks. This could be punishable by a fine of not less than $500, and no more than $1,000 or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year. The Daly City Police Department takes this very seriously. In addition, parents may be held liable for any damages or injuries caused by their children’s use of illegal fireworks.

We know there will be illegal fireworks, and we do try our best to respond to all requests of fireworks use. When reporting illegal fireworks, please do NOT call 911, but instead use the police business line (650) 991-8119. Tying up 911 lines for non-emergencies, especially with the volume of calls on July 4th, places lives in danger.

Please act responsibly and plan ahead. Various events throughout the Bay Area to celebrate our nation’s holiday can be found here: https://patch.com/california/san-francisco/july-4th-guide-fireworks-parades-more-2019-sf-bay-area

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
