Felon arrested after harassing woman in Taylor Mountain Regional Park

Deputies arrested a man on Saturday after he threatened to follow a woman home when she was hiking in a park.  At approximately 11:00 a.m. on June 22, the Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a woman hiking in Taylor Mountain Regional Park.  A man had approached her and asked her to come with him.  When she ignored him and walked away, he began yelling at her and threatened to follow her home.  She provided a description of the man, later identified as Salvador Bejar Jr., 36, of Santa Rosa.

Deputies responded to the park.  Henry 1 also responded to search for the suspect because there is limited vehicle access in the park and portions of it are remote.  The Henry 1 crew quickly located Bejar Jr.  With Henry 1’s assistance, dispatch gave directions to the victim to guide her safely out of the park. Henry 1 then flew deputies to the suspect so they could contact him quickly while other deputies talked to the victim.

Deputies walked Bejar Jr. out of the park.  They determined he was the same man who had harassed the victim and that he was under the influence of alcohol, both of which are violations of his probation terms.  Minutes before deputies contacted Bejar Jr., Santa Rosa Police dispatch received a call of a man with a backpack running in the in park.  The caller stated he thought the helicopter was looking for that man.  Deputies determined Bejar Jr. had made that call.
Bejar Jr. was arrested for felony violation of probation and booked into the Sonoma County jail where he is being held without bail.  He has previous convictions for items including weapons charges and assault.

The Sheriff’s Office encourages people to always maintain awareness in public places and call us if they see anything suspicious.
