Shooting in Vandalia, MI (Revised 6-22-19)
Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting in the 62000 block of Cass Ave in Vandalia, MI, on 6/21/2019 at approximately 10:00 pm.
A 911 call from the residence reported that a man had shot. After officers arrived on scene, first aid was immediately given to James E. Hodges Jr., 37 year old Vandalia resident, for a gunshot to his abdomen. Mr. Hodges was transported by Lifecare to Aircare and then to South Bend Memorial Hospital for his injuries where he is in critical but stable condition.
Investigation showed that during a domestic altercation, Mr. Hodges' 15 year old son shot him in self defense and the defense of another. The 15 year old's name is being withheld due to his juvenile status. No charges are being sought for the 15 year old at this time. Reports will be forwarded to the Cass Co. Prosecutor's Office. The case still remains under investigation.
