Shooting Sends Victim to Hospital

Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports that deputies of the Cass County Sheriff's Office responded to a shooting that occurred in the 300 block of East Dibble street in the Village of Marcellus on June 21st 2019 at approximately 9:44 p.m. Investigation into the incident reveals subjects had gathered for a campfire in the backyard of the residence when an argument ensued between the victim, Tyler Blentlinger (22 years of age of Marcellus) and the suspect. During the argument, the suspect retrieved a gun and fired in the direction of the victim striking him twice. A 911 call was made and deputies responded to the scene. The suspect was arrested on charges of attempted murder and lodged in the Cass County Jail pending arraignment on those charges. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the incident. The incident remains under investigation at this time. The Cass County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Marcellus Ambulance service who transported the victim to Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The name of the suspect is being withheld this time until the arraignment.
