Shooting in Vandalia, MI

Sheriff Richard J Behnke reports his office is investigated a shooting in the 62000 block of Cass Ave in Vandalia, MI, on 6/21/2019 at approximately 10:00 pm.
Emergency responders were sent to a call of a man who was shot in the abdominal. After officers arrived on scene first aid was immediately given to James E. Hodges Jr., 37 year old Vandalia resident, for a gunshot to his abdomen. James was transported by Lifecare to Aircare and then to South Bend Memorial Hospital for his injuries where he is in critical but stable condition.
After deputies conducted their investigation it was determined that during a domestic altercation Mr. Hodges was shot in the abdomen by a 15 year old, whose name is being withheld due to his juvenile status. At this time no arrest have been made, the case still remains under investigation.
The Sheriff’s Department was assisted on scene by LifeCare Ambulance, AirCare, Penn Township Fire Department and the Cass County Prosecutors Office.
