SMPD Arrests Robbery Suspect Within Minutes Of Crime

San Mateo Police Department officers quickly saturated the area and arrested a suspect in connection with a forceful street robbery that occurred along a pedestrian bridge.

San Mateo, CA – 24 year-old San Mateo resident Kyle Yee was quickly arrested last night by San Mateo Police following a street robbery. Fortunately, the victim was not seriously hurt, and police were able to return his property to him.

In the evening hours of Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 9:07 P.M., a male victim was seated on a bench alongside a pedestrian bridge when Yee attacked him from behind demanding property. The victim struggled with Yee and eventually gave up his property fearing Yee had a gun.

Yee fled toward the Caltrain Hillsdale station as a witness called 911 to report the crime and provide a detailed description of the suspect. San Mateo Police officers quickly saturated the area in search of the suspect. SMPD’s Crime Reduction Unit located and captured Yee before he had the chance to board a train.

Yee was positively identified as the robbery suspect and was in possession of the victim’s property, however a gun was not located. Officers reunited the victim with property and transported Yee to San Mateo County Jail for booking.

SMPD has a few robbery prevention tips to share with our community:

  • Stay alert!
  • Trust your instincts. If you sense danger, move away from it and call the police.
  • Travel with others and walk in well-lit areas.
  • Keep your valuables out of sight.

In the event of a robbery, SMPD has some helpful tips to share:
  • Call 9-1-1 immediately and remain on the line.
  • Don’t chase the robber. Leave this to the police.
  • Don’t touch anything the robber may have touched.
  • Write down a description of the robber and weapon as soon as you are able.
  • If the robber had a car, write down the color, make, model, and license plate.
