Localized flash flooding is possible in areas with poor drainage as well in urban areas and places where excessive amounts of rain hits in a short period of time. The good news is that none of New Jersey’s rivers are at or near flood stage, the weather service said.
Though the five northeastern counties are not under a flash flood watch, forecasters still say thunderstorms could sweep across that part of the state this afternoon and early evening. The timing of those storms and how long they could last are still to be determined, but strong gusty winds could accompany pounding rain. Flash flood watches could also be issued for Essex, Bergen, Hudson, Passaic and Union counties later today.
Instructions:
Never drive through standing water... "Turn Around... Don't Drown..." Avoid areas prone to flood regularly.
