Deputies arrest two suspects for stealing bins containing scrap copper, brass and stainless steel fittings

DATE/TIME: June 16, 2019 / 12:38 p.m.

INCIDENT: Grand Theft

LOCATION: 32000 block of Dunlap Blvd, Yucaipa

SUSPECTS: Jason Lee Cox, age 39 a resident of Beaumont
Jazz Anderson, age 22 a resident of Beaumont

VICTIM: Sorenson Engineering

SUMMARY:
On Saturday, June 15, 2019, shortly after 6:00 am, an employee arrived to work a Sorenson Engineering and observed two suspects in a black Toyota Tacoma stealing bins containing scrap copper, brass and stainless steel fittings for recycling. The suspects fled, but the vehicle was captured on security video. The stolen materials were valued at over $4,000.

On June 16, at approximately 12:38 pm, an employee watching live surveillance video saw the suspect vehicle return to the business. Deputies arrived on scene within minutes, stopped the vehicle and detained Jason Lee Cox (male) and Jazz Anderson (female). Both were arrested for grand theft and booked at the Central Detention Center. Cox also had a warrant for his arrest for a drug paraphernalia charge.

Deputies believe Cox and Anderson may have been involved in other similar thefts and are attempting to determine where they took the thousands of dollars of stolen metals taken on June 15. Investigation to date showed the suspects have recently been all over the Inland Empire, including Yucaipa, Redlands, Grand Terrance, Highland, Riverside, and Pomona, often during the night and early morning hours.

At the time of the theft and their arrest, the suspects were in a black 2013 Toyota Tacoma pickup with California license 78638J1. The bed of the truck was full of tools, yard equipment, welding equipment, and other construction items. Inside the vehicle, deputies found dozens of keys, flashlights, binoculars, bolt cutters and other items commonly used in thefts and burglaries.
