REMINDER of phone and email SCAMS hitting your area & using Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Employee Names

Although we have sent this message out several times over the last few months we would like to once again remind you that the WCSO does not call or email to ask for money or gift cards to pay off a fine you may have.

We have once again received a rash of Phone and Email SCAMS within our area purported to be from Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Employees.  The suspect(s) of the SCAM say they are employed by the WCSO and may even use a current employee's name, phone number and/or similar email address.  The scam then requires the receiver to send money, purchase gift cards or otherwise GIVE financial support to the "scamming" suspect. The suspect(s) then threaten you, saying you will go to jail or be arrested if you do not comply.

The Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Does Not and Will Not ask for money, gift cards or financial compensation to be given specifically to ANY individual employee.  We do not call and ask for you to pay your fines by gift cards.

If you receive a call from teh WCSO and are unsure you may call the Sheriff's Office through Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office Metro Dispatch;  734-994-2911.  Please do not provide any personal or financial information to the scammers.

The WashtenawCounty Sheriff's Office is committed to: "Creating Public Safety, Providing Quality Service and Building Strong Sustainable Communities".
