Sun Prairie Stronger: One Year Remembrance Ceremony Honoring the Events of July 10

SUN PRAIRIE-On Wednesday, July 10, 2019, the City of Sun Prairie and Sun Prairie Fire & Rescue Company will host an event in remembrance of last summer's tragic natural gas explosion and fire that took the life of Fire Captain Cory Barr and damaged several properties in downtown Sun Prairie.

All community members are invited to attend the one year anniversary event. This will be an opportunity to acknowledge the various organizations whose efforts kept the community safe and assisted in the aftermath and recovery.

The evening will begin with a gathering starting at 6:00 p.m. at Fire Station 1 (135 N. Bristol Street) with a schedule of events as follows:
6:45 p.m. Remarks from Mayor Esser, Chief Garrison and Abby Barr
7:00 p.m. Honor Guard will lead the walk to the site of the Barr House
7:05 p.m. Closing prayer with a moment of silence to be observed for Captain Cory Barr

At the conclusion of the event, community members are invited to support local downtown businesses. A list of participating businesses will be shared closer to the event on the Downtown Sun Prairie Facebook page including those with extended hours and special offers to recognize and support City of Sun Prairie Emergency Services.

Starting at 5:30 p.m., Bristol Street at Main Street, Bristol Street at Cliff Street and Columbus Street at Angell Street will be closed. Streets will re-open by 7:30 p.m.

The event will be held rain or shine. Public parking is available throughout downtown Sun Prairie in the various downtown lots.
Razor Sharp Screen Printing will have t-shirts available for purchase online at https://razor-sharp-screen-printing.myshopify.com/ and in store starting Thursday June 13 while supplies last. $4 of every purchase will be used to memorialize Captain Cory Barr.
