Two teenagers were arrested for attempting to purchase a cell phone with counterfeit money

INCIDENT: Theft by False Pretense, Possess Counterfeit Money
LOCATION: 28355 Baseline St, Highland (parking lot)
SUSPECT(S):
14-year-old male, resident of Highland
17-year-old male, resident of Highland
SUMMARY:
Deputies from the Highland Sheriff’s Station responded to 28355 Baseline St. reference a theft of a cellular phone. The victim posted a cellular phone for sale on the online marketplace and the suspects contacted the victim and arranged a meeting. One of the suspects provided the victim counterfeit money in exchange for the cellular phone, and when the victim realized the money was counterfeit, the suspect fled with the victim’s cellular phone. The victim chased the suspect and detained him, effecting a citizen’s arrest.
Through the investigation, deputies recovered the victim’s property, as well as other property taken during a similar incident on June 1, 2019.
Both juveniles were cite released to their parents.
