INCIDENT: PC 496D(a) – Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
PC 530.5(a) – Identity Theft

LOCATION: 9th Street / McKinley Street, Highland

SUSPECT: Gerardo Jerry Camacho, 40-year-old resident of Highland

VICTIMS: Multiple – From California and Texas

SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at about 3:26 p.m., a deputy and San Bernardino County Probation Officer assigned to the Highland Police Department Multiple Enforcement Team conducted a traffic stop on a white U-Haul pickup after it left the area of a problem location that has generated multiple complaints in the city of Highland. The stickers identifying the pickup as a U-Haul vehicle were removed. The driver of the vehicle was identified a Gerardo Jerry Camacho, a documented local gang member. Camacho had an active warrant for his arrest.
The vehicle was not reported stolen at the time however, an investigation revealed the vehicle was stolen from a U-Haul lot in the city of Monterey Valley on May 29, 2019. Numerous fraudulent and counterfeit California Drivers Licenses and Social Security Cards in multiple victims’ names were found during a search of the vehicle.
Camacho was booked into the Central Detention Center for PC 496D(a), possession of a stolen vehicle with a bail set at $50,000. Camacho is scheduled to appear in the Superior Court of San Bernardino on June 7, 2019 to be arraigned for the charges. The victims are still being identified and the identity theft is still under investigation by Highland Detective and the MET Team.
