Press Release: Residential Burglary Suspect Arrested

SUSPECT #1: Emmett Tahiry, 23-year-old Milpitas resident

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, at approximately 12:32 P.M., a resident on the 1300 block of Lassen Avenue called the Milpitas Police Department to report a burglary. The resident heard a thumping sound in her family room and the sound of someone walking in the hallway of her residence. Milpitas Police officers arrived at the residence within two minutes, but the suspect was not located. The resident had seen a suspicious man knocking on her front door about 20 minutes prior to the burglary.

On Sunday, June 2, 2019, at approximately 2:25 P.M., a resident on the 1400 block of Lassen Avenue called the Milpitas Police Department to report a man in the backyard of her residence. The man knocked on the front door to her residence about 20 minutes before going into the backyard. Milpitas Police officers arrived in the area within minutes but the man was not located. The resident’s security camera captured video of the suspect and provided it to officers.

On Monday, June 3, 2019, at approximately 4:24 P.M., a Milpitas Police officer saw Tahiry sitting on a bench on the 1400 block of Lassen Avenue. The officer recognized Tahiry from the surveillance footage provided to officers on June 2nd. Tahiry provided a false name to officers and appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Officers searched Tahiry and located a small quantity of crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and property stolen from the residence on June 1, 2019.

Milpitas Police detectives interviewed Tahiry and later searched his residence. Detectives recovered additional items stolen during the burglary on June 1, 2019. Tahiry is on probation from Alameda County for burglary and probation from Santa Cruz County for hit and run. Tahiry was booked into the Santa Clara County jail for burglary, prowling, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, providing a false name, possession of drug paraphernalia, and a probation violation.
