Advisory

The Lighthouse Point Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of a new Autism program LHPPD CARES.

The Lighthouse Point Police Department is pleased to announce the launch of a new program:

LHPPD CARES is a new outreach program designed to help improve interactions and relationships between members of the Lighthouse Point Police Department and those in our community living with Autism.

Lighthouse Point residents now have the ability to voluntarily provide informative background information about their Autistic family members, that will help our police officers be better prepared and to better understand any behavioral challenges that may exist, when responding to calls for assistance. The provided information will be entered into our autism outreach file, and kept confidential for police personnel only.

We continue to strive for positive outcomes during interactions between our police personnel, and those living with Autism.

To participate in the program, visit our Department website at www.lhppd.com. Once on this website select “LHPPD Cares”. You will be given the choice to complete the form online or download, print and bring the completed form to the Police Department. The completed online form will automatically be sent to the program coordinator, who will then enter the information into our confidential database. A printed copy of the information form may also be obtained at the front desk of the Police Department, to be completed and returned for processing.

If you have any questions, please contact our program coordinator, Community Policing Officer, Paul McCormick at 954-784-3423
