Fatal Motorcycle Accident
On May 31, 2019 at 6:22pm, the Amsterdam Police Department investigated a fatal car/motorcycle accident at the intersection of State Highway 5S and state highway 30. After a preliminary investigation, it appears that a 2014 Kawasaki motorcycle being operated by a 28 year old Glenville resident, was westbound on Rt. 5S when a vehicle, a 2014 Subaru, being driven by an 83 year old Amsterdam resident, was travelling eastbound on Rt. 5S and turned left onto Rt. 30 in front of the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was treated at the scene for serious injuries and airlifted to Albany Medical Center. The operator of the Subaru was treated at the scene and transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam for evaluation.
The investigation is ongoing, but at this time, alcohol or speed do not appear to be a factor.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Amsterdam Fire Department, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, New York State Police and GAVAC.
