SUSPECTS: Alfredo Avila, age 25 a resident of Highland
Esdras Avila, age 18 a resident of San Bernardino

VICTIM: Confidential Juvenile

SUMMARY:
On Monday, May 6, 2019, at about 3:33 p.m., deputies assigned to the Highland Police Department were dispatched to the One Stop Food Store in reference to a miniature motorized motorcycle that was stolen from a juvenile victim.
During the investigation, deputies determined the juvenile victim pulled up to the location on a miniature motorized motorcycle and was getting off of it when a white Chevrolet Malibu is containing four occupants parked in front of the location. Esdras Avila approached and hit the victim. Esdras placed the victim in a chokehold and threw him to the ground, causing his head to hit the ground and helmet to come off. While Esdras was attempting to flee on the motorcycle, Alfredo Avila approached and stole the victim’s helmet. Alfredo directed Esdras to flee the location on the motorcycle.
Esdras fled the location on the motorcycle, while Alfredo and the other subjects left the location in the Malibu. While leaving the scene, Alfredo yelled gang slurs and displayed gang signs to a witness. A short time later, Alfredo was confronted by a good Samaritan, and a struggle ensued when the Samaritan tried to recover the motorcycle. Esdras and Alfredo fled the location, leaving the motorcycle behind. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Alfredo was on adult formal felony probation and was identified as a local gang member.
On Thursday, May 16, 2019, investigators from the Highland Station served a search warrant on the 7900 block of Lankershim Avenue in the city of Highland. A firearm was recovered from the residence. At the conclusion of the search warrant, Alfredo Avila was arrested and booked into the Central Detention Center for PC 211 Robbery, with a bail amount of $200,000.00 and a probation violation without bail.
On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, Esdras Avila was arrested at Cajon High School and booked into the Central Detention Center for PC 211 Robbery, with a bail amount of $100,000.00.
