Tyler Phillips arrested after stealing a car and crashing it multiple times.

At 9:43 AM on May 17, 2019, a citizen called APD Dispatch to report his vehicle as stolen.  The citizen had gotten into a car crash with his 2008 black Chevy Impala in a parking lot on the 3800-block of Lake Otis Parkway.  As the citizen was out of his vehicle and exchanging information with the other driver, an adult male pedestrian, later identified as 20-year-old Tyler J. Phillips, got into the Chevy.  Phillips backed the vehicle into several other parked cars, drove over a median, and left the scene.
At approximately 9:45 AM the driver of a 2007 silver Honda was heading east on Tudor, got into the left turn lane at Arctic, and stopped there for a red light.  While the Honda was stopped she was rear-ended by Phillips.  The driver got out of her vehicle but Phillips drove away without contacting her.  The Honda’s driver was not injured.
At 12:26 PM the driver of a 2007 green Subaru Forrester was southbound on Jewel Lake Road, waiting at the light to turn eastbound onto Dimond Boulevard, when Phillips approached from behind and rear-ended the Forrester. The Subaru had to be towed from the scene but the driver was not injured. Phillips continued driving southbound, went through the McDonalds parking lot after driving over a sidewalk and curb, and then left eastbound on Dimond.  Both airbags of the Chevy had deployed.
One minute later a 2001 black Ford F150 and another vehicle were stopped side-by-side in the eastbound lanes of Dimond at the stoplight with Arlene.  Phillips, who was still driving eastbound, attempted to squeeze between the two stopped vehicles; Phillips sideswiped the driver’s side of the Ford pickup.  The Chevy was briefly stuck, but Phillips was able to break free and drive northbound on Arlene. The Ford’s driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries and declined transport to the hospital by AFD.
The unoccupied stolen vehicle was located in a ditch at Arlene and 88th.  Moments later Dispatch received a call from a homeowner on the 2400-block of Sunny Circle stating there was a male on his porch.  Officers responded to that home and took Phillips into custody without incident at 12:44 PM.  He was transported to the Anchorage Police Department to be questioned by detectives.  Afterwards Phillips was remanded at the Anchorage Jail on the charges of Vehicle Theft I, Theft II, two counts of Assault III, Felony Eluding, and Felony Hit and Run.
