Vehicle stop nets fugitive and variety of drugs

Deputy Robert Watson of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Paul Burton Smith, 36, address listed as Maple Avenue in Marion, with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
                Smith was also served with outstanding charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to sell and deliver methamphetamine and carrying a concealed weapon.
                Shortly after 7 p.m. on Monday, April 29, Watson was patrolling on U.S. 70 in Nebo, when he observed a Honda Accord with a fictitious license plate. The deputy noticed that Smith was driving and knew he had outstanding warrants against him.
                Watson stopped the Honda, and a search of the automobile turned up 6.85 grams of heroin, 7.11 grams of methamphetamine and 1.75 grams of marijuana, as well as drug paraphernalia.
