VIDEO UPDATE - Police Arrest Aberdeen Man for Dragging Two Newark Officers
Newark – Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced the arrest of a Monmouth County man who dragged two officers with his car early this morning as they questioned him about drug use and possession on Newark streets.
"We will not tolerate people coming into this city to buy drugs,” Ambrose said. “We especially won’t tolerate them injuring or disrespecting our police. If they do, we will track them as quickly and as efficiently as we found this Monmouth County suspect.”
Police responded to a call about a sick man in a car at Charleston and Spruce streets in Newark at 2:13 a.m. and found Jacob Wolski, 30, of Aberdeen sitting in a white midsized car registered to him.
As the officers approached the car, they noticed Wolski appeared to be using drugs. When police leaned into the car to question Wolski, he sped away, dragging both officers. Video link is below.
One officer sustained a hand injury and the other a minor head injury. Both officers were taken to the hospital and released.
Before being assaulted, the officers recorded Wolski’s license plate and put out information to other agencies. He was arrested a short time later by Edison police and charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was then handed over to Marlboro police who had a warrant out for his arrest. Wolski is being held in Monmouth County jail.
Newark police have charged Wolski with two counts of aggravated assault, resisting arrest and eluding, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of heroin.
These charges are merely accusations. This suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
