Sgt. Knetzger to receive the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award and New officers will be sworn in on Monday May 20th

On May 20th, 2019 the Green Bay Police Department will be awarding Sgt. Michael Knetzger with the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award from the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum. Located in Titusville, Florida, The American Police Hall of Fame and Museum, founded in 1960, is the nation’s first national law enforcement museum and memorial, dedicated to officers killed in the line of duty.

The museum, through interactive displays, simulators and nearly 11,000 artifacts, educates the public about the history and current trends in American law enforcement. The memorial lists over 9,000 officers who were killed in the line of duty and their names are permanently etched on the memorial’s marble walls. The American Police Hall of Fame and Museum offers compassionate programs for law-enforcement families, yearly birthday and holiday gifts for children, scholarships and summer camp funds.

They also provide law enforcement training, a national awards program, K9 unit funding (over $1 million raised and implemented) and more. They serve the families of fallen and disabled officers year after year over the long haul, appreciating their sacrifice and working to make their lives better.

The J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award is issued to Law enforcement officers who have successfully completed additional training to garner new skills in the field of criminal justice. It recognizes officers who continually seek a lifetime of education and advancement. It can also be issued to instructors who provide beneficial products or services to the law enforcement community. Since 1985, 237 people have been awarded the J. Edgar Hoover Memorial Award. Sgt. Knetzger will be the 13th recipient since 1985 from the state of Wisconsin.

Members of the media are invited to attend this award presentation which will take place on Monday May 20th at 9am at the Green Bay Police Department Training Center during the swearing in ceremony for our newest officers.

Media can set up at 08:45 AM. Any questions can be directed to Commander Kevin Warych at this date and time. Sgt. Knetzger and the new officers will be available following the ceremony for comment.
