NARRATIVE:

On May 15, 2019, at approximately 8:17 PM, the Major Crimes Task Force, partnered up with the California Highway Patrol, were conducting high visibility gang enforcement patrols in the area of Manor Circle and Hamilton Boulevard.  This area is known to Major Crimes Task Force officers for gang/narcotics activity.

Officers observed a vehicle with two occupants parked on Manor Circle, just west of Hamilton Boulevard, and decided to contact the occupants.  When officers approached the vehicle they recognized the front passenger to be well known gang member and convicted felon, Ronnie Ruvalcaba.  Ruvalcaba has been arrested by the Pomona Police Department two times in the past six months for possessing loaded firearms.  Officers observed that Ruvalcaba appeared nervous and began moving around in the front passenger area of the vehicle.  Officers ordered Ruvalcaba out of the vehicle and detained him in handcuffs.  Ruvalcaba was checked for weapons and it was at that time that officers found a loaded firearm in Ruvalcaba’s front pocket.

The Major Crimes Task Force takes a zero tolerance approach on all persons who illegally possess firearms.  Proactive enforcement, to remove illegal weapons from the hands of gang members and convicted felons, such as the actions taken by MCTF officers, is for the purpose of protecting the citizens and those visting Pomona, and our neighboring communities.

Ruvalcaba was arrested on multiple felony charges and booked in the Pomona City jail.  On today’s date the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office filed charges that included felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Pomona Police Department at 909-620-2085.
