News Story - DUI Checkpoint Results

Nature of Incident: Driver’s License/ DUI Checkpoint Results

Location: Moorpark, CA.

Date & Time: M a y 4, 2019, 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m.

Unit(s) Responsible: Moorpark Police Department-Traffic Bureau

Narrative:

Moorpark, Calif. –The Moorpark Police Department made zero arrests for Driving Under the Influence while conducting a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint on May 4, 2019. The checkpoint was held in the westbound lanes of Tierra Rejada Road, east of Spring Road, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.

During the checkpoint, 899 vehicles were screened, resulting in 1 warrant arrest and 1 juvenile being cited for driving without a driver’s license. Deputies also issued 4 traffic citations for a variety of traffic offenses.

Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the monetary impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and possible jail time.

The Moorpark Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.

The Moorpark Police Department will be conducting another DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in the future, in our ongoing commitment to take suspected impaired drivers off our streets and highways. DUI/ Driver’s license checkpoints aid in lowering the risks for deaths and injuries associated with impaired driving.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, in association with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
