It’s Click-it-or-Ticket time!! Everyone in the vehicle needs to be buckled up.

The Anchorage Police Department is currently participating in the national Click-it-or-Ticket campaign.  Officers will be specifically looking for both drivers and passengers in vehicles that are not properly buckled up and citations will be issued.

Human life is priceless.  We can’t possibly put a dollar value on it.  But we can put a dollar value on the tickets you will receive if you violate the Municipality’s seatbelt law.  If you are at least 16 years old and occupying a motor vehicle while not wearing your seatbelt, regardless if you’re the driver or a passenger, you will receive a citation for $60.00.  If you are the driver of a vehicle wherein a passenger who is 15 years old or younger is not properly secured with either a seatbelt or child seat, then you will receive a $200.00 citation for EACH unbuckled child.  This particular ticket also comes with 2 points on your license.

It's not uncommon, when we talk about traffic enforcement, for people to raise the issue of fines and where the profits go.  It's not about the money for us.  What it is about for us is that the issuance of citations corrects driving behavior which is our ultimate goal.  The fines collected from traffic citations go into the Municipality's General Fund and not to the Police Department.

According to some studies a hug can have a measureable positive impact on a person’s mood and stress level.  So think about your seatbelt’s shoulder strap in that manner – it’s your car hugging you.

How great is that?

This detail, made possible by a grant from the Alaska Highway Safety Office, runs through June 3rd.
