Update 4:20 pm.  Gas company has shut off the gas leak and is working on repair of its lines.  People who were asked to evacuated can return to their homes.  SJ Gas Company personnel are working in the area and will be monitoring homes for any reidual gas readings in or around homes.  If you enter your home and you smell gas, please call the fire department at 911 to investigate. Traffic detours are in effect around the gas repair.  Fleming Pike is closed from Hay Road to Egg Harbor Road.  Fleming Pike (East bound traffic only) from Egg harbor Road to teh White Horse Pike is closed.  One lane of travel is open (alternating traffic) on Egg Harbor Road from Spring Garden Road to Spring Road. Repair crews will be workign for the next couple of hours to restore all gas service and repair the road.  No further updates to follow.

Update 1:40 pm  Evacuations of 15 homes has been completed.  If you were not directly contacted to evacuate, you can remain in your home.  SJ Gas is in the process of shutting down the leak.  Electrical power WILL NOT need to be shut down as previously reported.  All road closures are still in effect.

A contractor has struck a large gas main causing a natural gas release.  Emergency responders are evacuating properties in the area of Fleming Pike & CR 561 (Egg Harbor Road) and along Fleming Pike towards the White Horse Pike.  Atlantic City Electric will be cutting electrical power in the area to reduce the chance of explosion.  Evacuated persons can shelter at the Winslow Township Municipal Building at 125 South Route 73, Braddock NJ.  There are numerous road closures in the area:
Fleming Pike closed from US 30 to Egg Harbor Road and Egg Harbor Rd to Hay Road. 
Egg Harbor Road  closed from Spring Road to Fleming Pike  and Fleming Pike to Spring Garden Road.
Estimated repair time is 2-3 hours.
