Teamwork Leads to Early Morning Burglary Arrest

On May 12, 2019 at about 6:30 a.m. the Janesville Police Department was dispatched to a burglary that had just occurred at the Odd Fellows Lodge at 20 N. Main St. A resident living in the building heard the breaking of glass and went outside to investigate. He saw a subject walking down the back staircase of the building carrying a cash register. The resident followed the suspect to a vehicle parked in the parking ramp next door and recognized the suspect as a former Odd Fellows member who was arrested last year for a similar burglary to that same location.

The reporting person gave Rock County Dispatch the suspect’s name and the vehicle description, a silver pickup, as it drove away. The dispatcher checked report records and found a license plate and local address the suspect may be going to. Janesville officers went to an address in the 900 block of Caroline and found the suspect vehicle and its engine was warm. The suspect, Edmund Reetz, came outside as requested and was taken into custody. With cooperation from the homeowner, the cash drawer was found in the garage and the cash register was found in the ceiling. Clothing Reetz was wearing matched that on the video of the suspect inside the Odd Fellows and the nearby parking ramp.

Reetz was on bond for a previous burglary to the Odd Fellows that occurred on October 7, 2018 and is a person of interest in a trespass and theft at a residence on Mitchell St. in Janesville.
