MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Emeryville police officers administer Naloxone in apparent opioid overdose

MEDIA ADVISORY FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Emeryville police officers administer Naloxone in apparent opioid overdose

On Friday May 10th, 2019 at 11:04 PM Emeryville police officers were dispatched to the Oaks Card Club (4097 San Pablo Ave) after employees reported a male adult was breathing but unresponsive. Officers arrived within one minute of the call and found the male had multiple symptoms of an opioid overdose. Officers administered Naloxone and within a short time the male's condition improved and he became responsive. The male was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for further care.

This is the third incident in two weeks Emeryville Police officers have administered Naloxone in response to an apparent opioid overdose. In response to the epidemic of drug overdoses from both prescription and illicit opioids, the Emeryville Police Department recently trained its officers on the recognition of an opioid overdose and supplied its officers with Naloxone. We want the community to know that calling 911 for assistance with a drug ingestion issue will not result in any criminal charges for being under the influence of an illegal substance. Seeking help is not a crime.
