News Release: Police Investigate Solo Fatal Collision on Skyline Boulevard

A motorcyclist collided on Skyline Boulevard and died at the scene.

On Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at 5:45 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a report from the California Highway Patrol that a fatal collision had occurred approximately one mile south of the intersection of Page Mill Road and Skyline Boulevard.

The preliminary investigation revealed that at around 3:53 p.m., a 2018 Ducati Panigale V4 R motorcycle traveling southbound on Skyline Boulevard rounded a corner, went off the road and collided into a tree and landed in a ravine. The female rider in her thirties was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to her injuries at the scene. A vehicle behind the motorcyclist saw a cloud of dust after rounding the same corner and discovered the collision. A Midpeninsula Regional Open Space park ranger driving by stopped to assist and called emergency personnel. Staff from the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, the Woodside Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol and the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office initially responded to investigate. Our Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team responded to the scene and took over the investigation when it was determined the crash occurred in the city of Palo Alto.

Police are not releasing the motorcyclist’s identity; that information can be obtained from the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.

The motorcyclist’s speed is unknown and it is also unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this crash. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing. Investigators do not believe any other vehicle was involved.
