HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 8, 2019 – On May 5, 2019 the Hollister Police Department conducted a DUI/ Driver’s License Checkpoint which resulted in 1 arrest and 25 citations for driving without a license or suspended license.

The Hollister Police Department conducted a checkpoint on Fourth Street at Filice Drive. Westbound traffic was screened by officers for possible DUI drivers and drivers without licenses.

The operation started at approximately 6:00 pm and concluded around 10:00 pm. During that time, officers screened over 600 vehicles. Officers conducted 3 field sobriety tests on driver’s suspected of driving while under the influence or who had been drinking. One of the drivers evaluated resulted in an arrest for suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol. One additional DUI arrest was made by patrol.

Those arrested for suspicion of DUI was Manuel Lopez-Perez (66) and Salud Martinez-Medina (23).

In total 25 drivers were cited for driving whithout a license or driving with a suspended driver’s license and other vehicle code violations. Everyone cited for driving without a license or driving with a suspended license was released at the checkpoint. Most of the vehicles were released to a licensed driver and not towed.

The Hollister Police Department would like to remind everyone to not drink when you drive and remember to have a designated driver if you choose to drink.

Funding for this checkpoint is provided to Hollister Police Department by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers – Call 9-1-1.
