Fatal Traffic Collision

On Sunday, May 5, 2019, at approximately 11:44 AM, Torrance Police Officers and Torrance Firefighters responded to the area of Sepulveda Boulevard and Ocean Avenue regarding a single car traffic collision.

The preliminary investigation reveals the lone driver of a 2004 Chevrolet pickup collided with a power-line pole on the north side of Sepulveda Boulevard. No other cars were involved in the collision.

It was discovered the driver, an 83-year-old male resident of Redondo Beach, suffered a medical emergency prior to veering off the road and colliding with the power-line pole.  The driver was treated by Torrance Fire Department personnel at the scene, transported to a local hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.  The identity of the driver is being withheld pending notification to a next of kin.

All westbound and eastbound lanes of Sepulveda Boulevard between Anza Avenue and Ocean Avenue were temporarily closed until 3:30 AM following repairs to the power-line pole.

The Torrance Police Department offers its condolences to the family involved in this incident.  This investigation is being conducted under the command of Torrance Police Captain Mark Underwood of the Special Operations Bureau.  Anyone with information regarding this case is encouraged to contact the Torrance Police Department at (310) 618-5557 (DR# 190020118).
