Town of Flower Mound
Thursday July 2nd, 2009 :: 10:49 a.m. CDT

The FMFD has an Independence Day safety message for residents. Visit for more information.

The Flower Mound Fire Department has a message for residents this Independence Day – play it safe, leave the fireworks to the pros.

In 2007, 9,800 fireworks-related injuries were treated in U.S. hospital emergency rooms. An estimated 32,600 reported fires were started by fireworks in 2006, resulting in six deaths, 70 injuries, and $34 million in property damage.

In addition to being extremely dangerous, it is illegal to possess, transport, or use fireworks within the Town of Flower Mound. And yes, this includes sparklers. Citations for violation of this ordinance can be up to $2,000 for each occurrence.

The Town has a great Fireworks Extravaganza planned for its residents on Saturday, July 4 at Flower Mound High School. Gates open at 7 p.m. and the fireworks will begin at approximately 9:25 p.m. The FMFD would like to encourage citizens to attend this patriotic event. More information about the show can be found at

The Fire Department thanks residents in advance for their cooperation, and wishes each one a safe and happy Fourth of July.
