The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Southern McDowell County in western North Carolina...

* Until 345 PM EDT.

* At 246 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 6 miles southwest of Marion, or near Old Fort, moving east at 15 mph. HAZARD...Ping pong ball size hail and 60 mph wind gusts. SOURCE...Radar indicated. IMPACT...People and animals outdoors will be injured. Expect hail damage to roofs, siding, windows, and vehicles. Expect wind damage to trees and power lines.

* Locations impacted include... Marion, Old Fort, Lake James State Park, Lake James, Nebo, Sugar Hill, Pleasant Gardens, Glenwood, Fero and Dysartsville.

* AFFECTED AREAS: MCDOWELL, NC
