Driver Arrested for DUI, Hit and Run and Threatening Officers
On the above date and time, Petaluma Police Department officers were dispatched to a report of a hit and run collision on 4th and C Streets. A witness reported a vehicle collided with a traffic pole and the occupants fled from the vehicle. The occupants of the vehicle were located a short distance away. The driver was determined to be Suspect Mendez. Mendez had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and person. Mendez admitted to driving and consuming alcohol. Mendez is on active DUI probation and was driving on a suspended license from a previous DUI arrest. Mendez was evaluated for DUI and determined to be under the influence and arrested. His preliminary BAC was .16%. Mendez was additionally arrested for threatening the arresting officers with bodily harm. Mendez was transported to Sonoma County Jail.
