Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of April 21 - April 27, 2019

Dear Duarte Community,

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of April 21 through April 27, 2019.        
 
April 21, 2019

  • No significant activity. 
 
April 22, 2019
  • A Grand Theft Vehicle was reported in the 1300 block of Random Lane. Between 6 p.m. on April 21st and 6:30 a.m. on the 22nd, person’s unknown stole a 2006 GMC Savannah. 
 
April 23, 2019
  • A vehicle Burglary was reported in the 2500 block of Maynard Drive. Sometime between 7 p.m. on April 22nd and 9:50 a.m. on the 23rd, person’s unknown gained entry into the victim’s locked vehicle and stole a watch and key fob to a security system. There were no signs of forced entry.   
            
April 24, 2019
  • A petty theft was reported at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). Two adult males were observed selecting numerous expensive items, then walking out without paying. Several muscle stimulators valued at $399 each and a fertility monitor valued at $499 were some of the items taken. All together, the loss was estimated at over $1,800. The investigation is on-going.  
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies were patrolling the area of Broadland Avenue and Duarte Road, when they initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration.  When the adult male driver stated his license had been suspended and he believed he had outstanding warrants, he was detained.  After confirming the driver was driving on a suspended license, coupled with the fact he had several outstanding warrants, he was arrested. Due to the suspect being on felony probation, a search of his vehicle was conducted. During the search of the vehicle, suspected heroin was recovered and the suspect was additionally charged.   

 
April 25, 2019
  • A Burglary to a detached garage was reported in the 1500 block of Three Ranch Road.  Sometime between January 1st and April 25th, person’s unknown stole seven vehicle spray painting guns from the garage.  Entry was made through the open garage door, which backs up to the Gold Line. The loss was estimated at $800.      
 
April 26, 2019
  • A Strong Arm Robbery was reported in the 1100 block of Central Avenue. An adult homeless female was pushing a shopping cart when a tan Jeep Wrangler pulled up alongside of her and an adult male Hispanic asked if she needed help. The female stated she didn’t and as she started walking over the 210 foot bridge, she noticed the suspect following her. The suspect suddenly grabbed the victim’s purse from her shoulder as she struggled to maintain possession of it. The suspect was able to overpower her, throwing her to the ground and running away with her purse. 
 
  • A petty theft was reported at 1088 Huntington Drive (T-Mobile). An adult male and female entered the store on April 22nd and attempted to take a small $100 speaker from a display rack, however, the item was secured to the rack with a locking device. Shortly after, an employee noticed the demo display speaker missing and asked the adult female if she could look in her handbag for the speaker. After not locating the speaker, both suspects left the store.  After reviewing video surveillance a few days later, the female suspect was observed placing the demo speaker in her handbag. The investigation is on-going.   
 
April 27 2019
  • A Grand Theft was reported at 2315 Huntington Drive (CVS). An employee observed an adult male walking up and down the cosmetic aisle with a tote bag. When the male exited the store without purchasing anything, the employee suspected he may have shoplifted and confronted him outside the store.  When the employee asked to look in his tote bag, the male refused and walked away. After reviewing surveillance footage, it was determined the male had placed approximately thirty nine make-up items in his tote bag and walked out without paying. The loss was estimated at approximately $1,222.  The investigation is on-going.
 
  • Illegal Weapons Arrest:  Deputies conducted a traffic stop of a bicyclist at Buena Vista Street and Central Avenue, after observing him committing several vehicle code violations. During the contact, it was determined the rider did not have any identification and was detained.  The rider was later found to be in possession of a loaded homemade gun, also referred to as a “Zip Gun” and was arrested. After further investigation, it was determined the suspect was an ex-felon and he was additionally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
