Suspect Arrested, Charged with Burglary & Robbery

On Thursday, April 18th, 2019 at approximately 4:14 AM, South River police officers Edward Dumas, Patrick Molina and Travis Taylor responded to an address on Hillside Avenue for a report of a suspicious person.

Upon their arrival, officers were advised by the residents that a female entered their home stating she had a loaded handgun. The female threatened to use it if they did not give her money. It was unknown if the female was still on location and, as result, a check of the premises was conducted.

During their search, officers located a female outside of the house crouching behind a parked vehicle in the driveway. After being ordered out from behind the vehicle, officers observed her to be holding a black handgun. After refusing numerous requests to drop the handgun, the female finally complied. The female, identified as 41 year old Kymberly Sparrow of Waiannae, Hawaii, was successfully handcuffed after a brief struggle.

Along with being in possession of the loaded handgun, Ms. Sparrow was found to be in possession of hollow point bullets within her pants pockets.

A follow up investigation conducted by members of the South River Police Department Detective Bureau resulted in Ms. Sparrow being charged with burglary, robbery, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of weapons for unlawful purposes, obstructing administration of law, prohibited weapons and devices, and burglary tools.

Ms. Sparrow was subsequently transported to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, NJ awaiting her detention hearing.

The investigation has revealed that the victims were specifically targeted and this was not a random act. If there is an ever an active threat to the South River community, steps would be taken by our department to notify residents immediately.

This investigation is active and continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective John Kenney of the South River Police Department at (732) 254-9002 ext.109.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Kymberly Sparrow are merely accusations and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
