Details:
On Monday, April 22, 2019, at approximately 6:00 p.m., PSPD officers responded to a residence in the 300 Block of Pico Road, regarding a medical aid for an elderly female that had been assaulted. Officers arrived to find the elderly female victim with significant trauma, deceased inside the residence. A house guest, identified as 75 year old Stephen McKernan, was also at the location. The preliminary investigation revealed McKernan had known the victim and her husband for several years. The investigation lead investigators to believe that McKernan was responsible for the homicide of the elderly female victim.
McKernan was arrested by PSPD at 8: 15 pm and was later transported to the Smith Correctional Facility in Banning, CA. Currently, McKernan is being charged with PC 187 (Murder).
The investigation is in its early stages and we ask anyone who may have witnessed this incident or may have information related to this incident to contact the Palm Springs Police Department Detective Bureau at 760-778-8411.
