Janesville Police Department hosting Diversity Training
The Janesville Police Department has partnered with the Center for Public Safety and Justice (CPSJ) to host training titled Diversity and Inclusion for Law Enforcement: Enhancing Cultural Responsiveness over the next two days locally.
The training will increase the skills and abilities of law enforcement officers to use cultural humility as a foundation for interpersonal interactions and community outreach program design. The training also will help bridge the gap between the historically abstract subject matter of diversity and inclusion and the practical application of engaging diverse populations in meaningful partnerships and joint problem solving efforts.
This newly released Office of Community Orientated Policing Services (COPS) was developed by the Center for Public Safety and Justice (CPSJ) at the University of Illinois. The training is high participatory and each training session is co-facilitated by a team consisting of one sworn law enforcement trainer and one non-sworn trainer from an allied profession.
A segment of the Janesville Police department, comprising all ranks and divisions, will attend the training. Other Rock County law enforcement agencies will also be in attendance.
This training will only enhance upon previous training officers of the Janesville Police Department have attended in the areas of implicit bias and procedural justice. The Janesville Police Department is committed to transparency and building community trust. One of the most legitimate aspects of the training was that officers had to seek out community members to partner with during a portion of the training.
The training will be held on 04/23/19 from 8:15 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. and on 04/24/19 from 9:15 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. All training will take place at Rotary Gardens in Janesville.
