Easter pursuit nets arrest of Princeton man on gun and drug charges.

On April 21, 2019, at 4:15 p.m. Deputy U.B. Smith attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Gold 2004 Lexus after recognizing the driver as 36 year old Daniel Freeman of Princeton. Upon recognizing Mr. Freeman Deputy Smith ran him through the Indiana Data and Communications System and discovered that Mr. Freeman was operating the vehicle as a Habitual Traffic Offender. Upon turning on the vehicle on Broadway in Princeton Mr. Freeman began fleeing in the vehicle at a high rate of speed. Deputy Smith pursued Mr. Freeman onto US 41 where while traveling northbound witnesses watched a white rocky substance fly out of the vehicle near County Road 225 North. Mr. Freeman continued North on 41 until ultimately surrendering to law enforcement near County Road 725 North. Deputy Smith with the assistance of officers from the Princeton Police Department, Indiana Department of Natural Resources, Knox County, and Gibson County Sheriff’s Office took Mr. Freeman into custody. During a pat down of Mr. Freeman 54 grams of Marijuana and multiple pills identified as various controlled substances were found. A search of the vehicle resulted in the recovery of a Glock 9mm that had been recently reported stolen to Princeton Police as well as a Smith and Wesson Rifle. Also recovered during Deputy Smith’s investigation was 60 grams of Methamphetamines that had been discarded during the pursuit.

At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Smith transported Mr. Freeman to the Gibson County Jail where he was charged with:

Possession of Methamphetamine (at least 28 Grams)
Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon
Dealing Methamphetamine While in possession of a firearm
Possession of Methamphetamine with a firearm
Carrying a handgun without a license with a prior conviction
Possession of a stolen firearm
Possession of Marijuana over 30 Grams with a prior conviction
Dealing Marijuana over 30 grams
Driving While a Habitual Traffic Offender
Obstruction of Justice
And 3 counts of Possession of a controlled substance.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond
a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
