Duarte Crime Blotter for the Week of April 14 - April 20, 2019

Dear Duarte Community,

The following is a synopsis of crimes reported for the week of April 14 through April 20, 2019:        
 
April 14, 2019

  • A Residential Burglary was reported in the 1200 block of Cotter Avenue.  The victim’s woke up in the morning and noticed their living room was ransacked.  Sometime between 11:00 pm, April 13th and 10:00 am, April 14th, person’s unknown entered the residence through the unlocked front door and ransacked the living room.  The victim’s driver’s license and $600 were taken from her purse, and a spare key to their vehicle was also taken.    
 
  • An Assault with a Deadly Weapon occurred in the 1000 block of Huntington Drive.  The victim was at the Arco gas station when she was involved in a verbal confrontation with another driver.  Fearing for her safety, the victim drove away, however, the suspect followed her, pulling in front of her and forcing her to stop and pull over.  Once the victim pulled over, the suspect rammed her vehicle several times, then exited his vehicle and started shouting profanities.  When the suspect saw the victim on the phone calling 911, he drove off.  The victim did not suffer any injuries.  The investigation is on-going.
 
  • A Petty Theft was reported in the 200 block of Mountain Crest Road.  At approximately 3:00 pm, a male adult was captured on surveillance video stealing a package from the front porch of the residence.  The suspect was wearing a black t-shirt, grey shorts, and had several tattoos on his forearms.  The loss of the package was estimated at $40.  
 
April 15, 2019
  • Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2700 block of Huntington Drive and detained the driver for driving without license.  During the investigation, it was determined the two passengers were on probation and were also detained.  After further investigation, a handgun along with illegal narcotics were recovered from the vehicle.  The driver was arrested for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and possession of illegal narcotics.
 
April 16, 2019
  • A Grand Theft was reported in the 1500 block of Shepherd Circle.  A tailgate to a 2013 Toyota Tundra was stolen. 
            
April 17, 2019
  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies were patrolling the area of Broadland Avenue and Duarte Road, when they detained an adult male walking whom they knew had outstanding warrants.  Incident to the arrest, deputies located a small plastic container that contained a powdery substance resembling methamphetamine.  After further investigation, the suspect was arrested for possession of methamphetamine for sales.      
 
April 18, 2019
  • An Assault with a Deadly Weapon was reported at 1533 Huntington Drive (Days Inn).  On April 1st, an adult male suspect approached the night window and stated he had a room reservation.  When the employee advised the suspect he did not have a reservation and they were completely booked, the suspect pulled a semi-auto handgun from his jacket pocket and pointed it at the employee standing behind the window.  The victim ducked down behind the counter, and when he stood back up, the suspects was gone.  The victim did not report the crime due to the fact the suspect fled. 
 
On April 18th, the victim saw the suspect on the Gold line platform.  The suspect made eye contact and started yelling at the victim.  Fearing the suspect recognized him and fearing the suspect may come back and harm him, the victim reported the April 1st incident.  The investigation is on-going.   
 
  • Narcotics Arrest:  Deputies were patrolling the alley in the 1300 block of Huntington Drive when they observed an adult male whom they were aware had outstanding narcotic related warrant and a felony warrant for assault on a peace officer.  As the deputies attempted to detain the suspect, he pulled away from them and attempted to run.  Deputies were eventually able to subdue the suspect, who was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.  The suspect was arrested for his outstanding warrants, along with possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest.
