NARRATIVE:
One of the missions of the Major Crimes Task Force is to locate and apprehend wanted felony suspects.

On 03/22/2019, the Major Crimes Task Force (MCTF) attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle occupied by suspects Maldonado and Diaz.  Instead of stopping, suspect driver Maldonado, accelerated at a high rate of speed in an attempt to flee from MCTF officers.  MCTF units pursued the suspects through the surface streets of Pomona and ultimately into the City of Diamond Bar.  The suspects attempted to elude MCTF officers in total disregard for the safety of persons or the property of the motoring public.  During the pursuit, Diaz, a well-known gang member from Pomona, tossed a firearm from the passenger side window right before Maldonado lost control of the vehicle and collided a carport structure and several parked vehicles.  Maldonado and Diaz were both arrested and booked on multiple felony charges.

The case was presented to the Los Angeles County District attorney’s office who filed multiple charges on both Maldonado and Diaz, which included felony evading and felon in possession of a firearm.

Maldonado and Diaz both posted bailed and left custody with a due date to return to court.  Maldonado and Diaz both failed to appear for their return date and bench warrants were issued for both suspects.

On 04/19/2019, at approxiamtely 6:00 PM, MCTF officers were conducting gang enforcement patrol when they spotted Diaz entering the Indoor Swap Meet.  MCTF officers conducted surveillance on the location waiting for Diaz to exit.  Soon after, Diaz was spotted exiting the location, but now with suspect Maldonado by his side.  MCTF officers intercepted the two suspects as they were attempting to get into an awaiting vehicle.  Both Maldonado and Diaz were captured and arrested without incident.  Diaz was discovered to be in possessed methamphetamine and Heroin for sales/distribution.

The Pomona Police Department takes a strong stance on apprehending fugitives for the purpose of improving the quality of life for the citizens of Pomona and bringing the accused before the courts to face justice.
