Deputies from the Major Accident Investigation Team are investigating the cause of a fatal traffic collision

LOCATION: Bear Valley Road East of Cottontail Lane, Town of Apple Valley
VEHICLES: Vehicle #1: Gray 2008 Toyota Sienna
Vehicle #2: White 2002 Chevy Blazer
Vehicle #3: White 2013 Nissan Rogue
VICTIM: Amanda Hinman, age 28 a resident of Apple Valley
SUMMARY: On Sunday, April 14, 2019, at about 2:00 PM, deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to a three vehicle traffic collision on Bear Valley Road east of Cottontail Lane. Emergency personnel from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response ambulance also responded. The passenger, later identified as Amanda Himan, of the gray Toyota Sienna succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Toyota suffered injuries and was airlifted to Loma Linda University Medical Center by California Highway Patrol helicopter. Deputies from the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded and took over the investigation.
Through investigation it was determined that the Toyota was traveling east on Bear Valley Road. For unknown reasons, the Toyota veered left crossing into the westbound lanes of Bear Valley Road. The Toyota collided head on with a white Chevy Blazer that was traveling west. After this collision, the Toyota continued crossing lanes and collided into a white Nissan Rogue that was also traveling west on Bear Valley Road. The occupants of the Nissan suffered minor injuries and the driver was transported by ambulance to St. Mary Medical Center. The driver and only occupant of the Chevy also suffered minor injuries and was transported to St. Mary Medical Center.
