A strong low level wind field will develop ahead of cold front this afternoon. South winds will increase to 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a Wind Advisory, which is in effect until 10 PM EDT this evening.
* Winds...South 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph, higher gusts along ridgetops.
* Timing...This afternoon into early this evening.
* Impacts...These strong winds could topple weaker trees and limbs, with localized power outages possible.
* Locations...Southern West Virginia, Southwest Virginia, and the North Carolina Mountains.
* Hazards...Strong wind gusts.
