Incident Details: On Friday, April 12, 2019, at 4:50 PM, the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit responded to a hiker who called 911 requesting help because he was lost in Eagle Canyon (Near South Palm Canyon and Bogert Trail).

The Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit was activated and responded to the location. Shortly after arriving on scene, members from the Palm Springs Mounted Police Search and Rescue Unit located the hiker and coordinated with a helicopter from the California Highway Patrol to airlift the hiker from the mountain. The hiker was subsequently airlifted to a designated landing area where rescue personnel was waiting. The hiker was uninjured.

The Indian Canyons is a 56-square mile area that includes more than 60 miles of trails. It is a popular hiking destination and attracts thousands of visitors from around the world every year. Law Enforcement and The Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians Tribal Rangers who work in the Canyons encourage visitors to wear appropriate clothing for the conditions, pack plenty of water, have a fully charged cell phone, stay on trails and allow enough time to return to trail-heads well before closing time. In addition hikers should tell a friend or family member details of the hike, including the name and location of the trail and estimated return time.
