SPD will will deploy extra officers this afternoon to stop speeders.

Did you know that the average time for a driver to perceive an obstacle and react to the obstacle is 1.5 seconds?  That means if you’re driving 25 mph you will travel 54.75 feet between noticing something and being able to put your foot on the brake.  If you’re driving at 35mph you will travel 76.65 feet.  Speed does matter.  The faster you drive the less reaction time you will have to avoid obstacles.  This afternoon we will have extra officers on the streets enforcing speed violations.  Please plan accordingly and give yourself an extra few minute to get where you are going and drive at a safe, legal speed.
