Deputies arrest Maurice Bush for evading/obstructing officers following a slow speed pursuit

DATE/TIME: April 10, 2019 / 7:43 a.m.

INCIDENT: PC148(A)(1)- Obstructing a Peace Officer
VC2800.1(A)- Evading a Peace Officer

LOCATION: Haven Avenue / Foothill Boulevard

SUSPECT: Maurice Bush, 28-years-old, resident of Pomona

SUMMARY:

On Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at approximately 7:43 a.m., deputies from the Rancho Cucamonga Police Station responded to the report of a stalled vehicle blocking the roadway at the intersection of Haven Avenue and Foothill Boulevard. As deputies attempted to contact the driver, he drove away southbound on Haven Ave. The driver, Maurice Bush, drove at slow speeds, 5-13 mph, failing to yield for pursuing deputies. Bush was observed displaying erratic behavior, waving his hands wildly, as he drove. Bush stopped his vehicle in the intersection of Haven Ave. and Trademark Street.

Deputies attempted to communicate with Bush, but he ignored the commands given and refused to exit the vehicle. Bush raised the volume of his car stereo to the point deputies were only able to hear the music playing from inside. The windows of Bush’s vehicle had dark tint, preventing deputies positioned to the rear from having visual observation of him or his actions. Bush lowered his seat back into a reclined position, preventing aviation and other ground personnel from seeing him through the front window. Less lethal bean bag rounds were deployed at the vehicle in an attempt to break the windows, so deputies could gain visual observation. Bush still refused to communicate.

Less lethal pepper ball rounds were deployed into the vehicle in an effort to take Bush into custody without a physical confrontation. The pepper balls had no effect on Bush. The Specialized Enforcement Division responded to assist in safely removing Bush from the vehicle. Bush was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center for obstructing and evading officers and an unrelated warrant. He is being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
