Horse Hill Preserve controlled burn scheduled for April 10 & 11, from 10 am to 3 pm

Please read this notice from the County of Marin’s Open Space District:

Crews from Mill Valley and Central Marin fire departments will work with Open Space District rangers to conduct controlled pile burning on Wednesday and Thursday, April 10-11 in the Horse Hill Preserve. Burn crews are monitoring air quality conditions and will coordinate with air quality management officials to avoid the impacts of smoke.

We notify residents about planned burns for several reasons: 1) to reduce calls to 911 dispatchers; 2) to remind people about creating defensible space around their homes and increase the odds of the structure’s survival in a wildfire; 3) to get people thinking about evacuation planning in case there were a real wildfire in their area. Consider registering your cell phone number with Alert Marin (www.alertmarin.org). It’s a great way to receive notifications in case of emergency. Listed and unlisted/blocked Marin County landline phone numbers are already included in our emergency notification system. Cell phone and VoIP numbers are not included and will require your registration.

After the burn, the Open Space District will partner with the Alto Bowl Horseowners Association to manage new broom seedlings. We are always eager to sign up more volunteers for broom removal. It is excellent exercise, reduces wildfire hazard, and a great way to meet other dedicated neighbors. To volunteer, contact open space Volunteer Coordinator Greg Reza at (415) 473-3778 or [email protected].
