A shooting investigation by the Jackson Police Department has determined that the shooter acted in self-defense and will not face homcide charges. On April 4, 2019, around 1:45 a.m., Jackson police responded to a Shot Spotter alert at 112 Martha Street. Shortly afterward, Tristan Kinnes, 32, of Jackson, arrived at a local hospital by private vehicle. He later died from his injuries at a Memphis hospital.
The shooter was immediately identified at the scene and detained by police for questioning. Investigators processed the crime scene, gathered evidence and interviewed witnesses. Investigators shared the results of the investigation with the District Attorney General. The DA determined that the shooter acted in self-defense, and the homicide was justifiable. The detained man was released with no charges.
