SOLICITORS ARESTED

On Tuesday afternoon the police department received calls from several residents along North Cornwall Road (Cornwall Borough) reporting individuals going door-to-door selling meat products. An officer located them at the intersection of SR 72 & North Cornwall Road. There were two subjects in the truck, neither had been issued a soliciting permit. A records check revealed that both subjects were fugitives; one was wanted on drug charges by the state of Missouri, the other on drug charges in Cumberland County. Both were taken into custody and transported to Central Booking.
This incident is an excellent example of how important it is to call the police when you "see something" that just doesn't seem right. These two individuals would not have been in the neighborhood much longer. They typically go to a few homes then move on, assuming that someone will call the police because they are going door-to-door without a permit. In yesterday's incident, the police arrived just as they were ready to move elsewhere.
From a food safety standpoint, these individuals were selling meat, chicken, pork, and seafood for Capital Meats Incorporated in Baltimore. The police department has had multiple contacts over the last few years with people selling products for this company. They never apply for permits, and the company, although not registered with the Better Business Bureau, is assigned a grade of F by the Bureau. In Tuesday's incident, the food products were in a chest type freezer in the back of a pick-up truck. The freezer was not plugged into electric and was so full that the lid did not close even though a bungee cord was attached for that purpose.. Lying in the open bed of the pick-up truck were several boxes of food product - all were marked "KEEP FROZEN".
