The apprehension of those responsible for these crimes is a major priority of the City of Duarte and the Sheriff's Department. One significant arrest was made by Duarte deputies  in connection with burglaries in Duarte and surrounding cities. But as the burglary activity has continued, it is obvious that there are other criminals at work. A majority of the car burglaries have occurred in the night or early morning hours when residents are asleep. As law enforcement works to solve these crimes, and through an increased patrol presence, strives to prevent other burglaries from occurring, we remind residents that there are also things you can do to help keep your valuables safe.
We recommend you take the following steps in protecting your property and to discourage would-be criminals from committing auto burglaries:
  • Do not leave valuable items visible in your car. Car Burglary is a crime of opportunity, be sure to keep your car clean from any clutter
  • Don’t think your dark tinted windows will hide your valuables. Thieves often use flashlights to see through tint
  • Close all windows and lock all doors before leaving your vehicle
  • Park in well-lit, heavily populated areas
  • Make a copy of your registration and insurance, and keep them in your wallet or purse.  Then remove all forms of identification from your vehicle.  Anyone with permission to drive your vehicle should also have a copy of the registration and insurance with them to furnish to the police if necessary
  • Do not leave garage door openers in parked vehicles
  • If you are parking your vehicle for several days check on it periodically
It is important to follow basic safety tips to keep your property safe. Most importantly ALWAYS Call Temple Sheriff’s Station for any suspicious activity at (626) 448-9861.
