Vehicle pursuit ends with dog bite, Taser deployment; SRPD case No. 19-4127.

On March 30, 2019, the Santa Rosa Police Department received a call about a black BMW with no tires and a shattered window in the parking lot of the Safeway on Fourth Street.  The driver was suspected of needing medical attention and possibly driving under the influence; but before officers arrived at the Safeway, the vehicle began driving away on eastbound Fourth Street in an erratic manner.

Officers eventually located the vehicle driving eastbound on Montgomery Drive with its right-front tire missing.  An officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the vehicle continued to drive at slow speeds on eastbound Montgomery Drive.  The slow-speed pursuit continued onto northbound Mission Boulevard and then onto eastbound Highway 12.

The vehicle then increased its speed up to 85 mph on eastbound Highway 12.  Officers continued to pursue the vehicle on eastbound Highway 12 until one officer stopped the pursuit using the pursuit intervention technique.  The driver refused to comply with the officers’ commands to exit the vehicle, and he continued to resist when the officers tried to pull him out of the vehicle.

A police K9 and a conducted electrical weapon were deployed to take the driver in custody.  The driver was identified as Santa Rosa resident Micah Jamison Pearce Henry, and he was believed to be under the influence of drugs at the time.  Pearce Henry was placed under arrest for felony evasion, driving under the influence of a drug, possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and a violation of Post Release Community Supervision.
