A man wanted for murder took a serious risk with his freedom when he came to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office to retrieve a firearm that was confiscated from him during an arrest.

Back in July of 2017, Defearious Cotton was arrested on misdemeanor marijuana and traffic charges. Cotton’s was in possession of a handgun and the weapon was confiscated for safe keeping by Deputies. Cotton received time served on probation for the charges.  Since that time Cotton got involved in a murder in Fulton County and had a warrant out for his arrest.   

In need of another firearm to possibly commit another crime, Cotton decided to come to the Sheriff’s Office yesterday after nearly two years to get his confiscated weapon back.  An astute evidence custodian (Deputy Kemper) ran Cotton’s  criminal history to make sure the weapon could be returned to him and saw that Cotton was wanted for murder out of Fulton County.  

While getting excited about getting his gun back, Cotton had a more exciting time meeting members of Sheriff Victor Hill’s elite Fugitive Squad as they walked up and surrounded him taking Cotton into custody quickly.  While waiting for Fulton County to pick him up, Cotton got to practice facing the wall again for his brief stay at Georgia’s toughest para-military jail, now better known as the “Hill-ton”
